No more partisan politics: seeking Utopia

Recent postings and comments here and elsewhere make me yearn for a book blogging Utopia, one in which polluted partisan politics are forever silenced. So, seeking my own version of that Utopia, I am making this resolution: I will read and discuss nothing that involves polluted partisan politics, and I'm starting over with a clean slate. But I leave you with a question: Do you think my goal is possible? Let's talk about the problem.

  1. a perhaps laudable goal; but in any free ranging discussion, i should think the topic would inevitably surface...

    1. Mudpuddle, perhaps you're right.we grew being told that it is best to avoid talking about sex, religion, and politics. Hell, what's left? Well, I will at try to avoid politics. It has become a dangerous maelstrom into which I must not fall.

    2. Mudpuddle, perhaps poetry is a good avenue. Hmmm. I've returned to Robert Frost this afternoon.

  3. Personally I am fine with politics and expressing one's views. I think that the key is to express one's opinions respectfully and to be open to the free exchange of ideas.

I find that keeping with the theme of books, leads my to occasionally, but only occasionally, delve into politics.

    1. Brian, perhaps I'm overreacting, but I've reached a saturation point with political rhetoric. This will pass much like a kidney stone. Ouch!

  4. I should have proofed my comment: Not sure if it's possible today, what with the political being the personal and all and so many people wanting to signal that they entertain only those opinions fashionable in certain circles.

    1. I understand, Frank. I am being a bit Pollyanna in my dream of avoiding political B.S., a flood that threatens to overwhelm me more and more each day. I'm quite tired of the polarized insanity. I suppose things have been worse in the past but not in my 70+ years of memory.

    2. Tim,

I agree. One of my New Year's resolutions was to avoid political discussions on my blog. There are enough places and venues around, for all colors of the political spectrum, to express one's opinions.

I don't feel I'm depriving anyone of a forum for expressing their opinions. I just think that there is so much going on today and so vitriolic (shootings at both Democratic and Republican lawmakers) that some people want to find places that are free of political discourse.

I won't censor any comments to my blog entries that are political in nature, though.

    3. Agreed, Fred. I won't censor but won't engage.
